2. Rounded Features

Rounded doorways, porthole windows, and fat furniture are all unique and whimsical features that are trending in 2025-2026. Brutalist or minimalist designs are not as popular in the custom home design world anymore.

3. Relaxation & Action

There is an uptick in the desire for relaxation and sports amenities alike. Spa-like bathrooms continue to be popular, while reading nooks are on the rise. Gaming rooms and rec rooms are gaining traction over man caves.

Color-drenching is a new trend where you coat an entire room’s walls and ceiling in one color,  including fixtures like molding, fireplaces, and doors. This can work with some rooms, but not all.

Earth tones like taupe, cream, and olive continue to be highly desirable for residential color schemes, although some people prefer brightly-colored homes.

5. Accent Walls

Accent walls, which can feature a solid paint color, a painted design, or wallpaper, are also on the rise. Once a dated trend of the early 2000s, it is returning in the form of a more subtle and textured focal point.

6. Vintage Touches

A significant percentage of people love vintage home design, and that is showing up in the custom home trends for 2026. It could include exposed beams, wallpaper, built-in storage, and real wood flooring.

7. Quiet, Integrated Tech

Smart tech and developing appliances continue to be present in high-ranking custom home trends, despite any returns to past trends. Integrated tech and quiet appliances are in demand.
